Let us see the eligibility conditions for sponsoring a family member —
- The sponsor must be at least 18 years or older;
- He or she should be a Canadian citizen or Canada permanent resident;
- The sponsor must prove to be able to offer financial support to the family member(s);
- The sponsor must give consent to offer financial support to the family member for three years from the date they get Canada permanent residency.
Spouse Sponsorship — Under Canada Family Class Program, Spouse Sponsorship is meant for those who want to offer sponsorship to their spouse or common-law partner/conjugal partner. BUSINESS CLASS INVESTOR PROGRAM
This category of Canada immigration enables entrepreneurs, self-employed persons, and investors to get a Permanent Resident Visa and immigrate to Canada. They must help boost the Canadian economy.
Under Business Class Investor Program, entrepreneurs, investors, and self-employed persons can get their permanent residency leading to Canada Citizenship depending on their managerial skills, ability, and willingness to make investments in Canada and their net worth.
So, if you want to make an investment in the economy of Canada, the Canadian government and some other Canadian provinces have some lucrative options for you. This stream is open for all business persons from any country.
Business Immigrants:
Entrepreneurs — Under Business Class Investor Program, entrepreneurs who shall own and manage any business in Canada, contribute to the Canadian economy, and create new jobs for Canadians are eligible. They need to show business experience along with the legally obtained net worth of at least CDN $300,000.
A strong economy, a high quality of life, low business costs, and taxes and excellence in the latest research and innovation make Canada a best bet for building your business as an entrepreneur under Business Class Investor Program.
Investors — Investors who can show that they possess legally obtained net worth of at least $800,000(Canadian dollars) and are ready for a 5-year interest-free investment of $400,000 (Canadian dollars) with Canadian government are eligible.
Self-employed persons — Persons who intend to become self-employed in Canada must fulfill the following conditions
- Relevant experience in athletics or cultural activities and an intention and ability to contribute to the athletic/cultural life of Canada; or
- Relevant experience in farm management along with an intention and ability to buy and manage a farm in Canada.
Eligibility requirements for Business Class Investor Program:
The applicants must fulfill the following
Canadian post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate of not less than one year or equivalent foreign education having validity by an ECA report from CIC designated organizations;
- Language skills test as a proof of proficiency in French or English;
- The personal net worth of $10 million (Canadian dollars) or more earned through lawful investment or private sector business activities.

EXPRESS ENTRY
This is a new process introduced by Canada in January 2015 to choose permanent residents based on the experience and skills needed in the development of the economy. Express Entry is an online process based on a ranking system.
Recent changes to Express Entry system
The amount of points you gain for having a job offer has changed.
- Now you get 90 days to apply instead of 60 days.
- Now you can earn some additional points for studying in Canada.
- Now a valid offer of job should be for one year only. Moreover, some job offers don’t require any LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) now.
It may be noted that Canadian territories and provinces can recruit candidates from Express Entry system through their respective PNPs (Provincial Nominee Programs) for meeting local labor market requirements.
To get qualify under Express Entry Canada, any applicant should be eligible under any of the following three immigration programs–
- Canadian Experience Class — This immigration program managed by Express Entry enables foreign students and temporary foreign workers to have at least 12 months of full-time work experience or 24 months of part-time work experience to get Canada Permanent Residency.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) — It provides an option of Canada permanent settlement based on the skills and abilities of skilled workers.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) — This program is for applicants who are qualified trade workers and wish to immigrate to Canada permanently after getting an offer of a job.
Two steps of Express Entry Canada
Completion of an online Express Entry Profile — All potential candidates shall have to complete an online Express Entry profile. This is considered to be a secure form for providing details regarding the following
- Their language ability
- Their education
- Work experience
- Skills; and
- Any other information that shall help the Canada immigration department to assess them properly.
Those who fulfill the eligibility conditions of one of the three immigration programs (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program) shall be accepted into a pool of candidates.
Any candidate not having a job offer supported by an LMIA (if it’s needed) or a nomination from any Canadian province/territory needs to get registered with ESDC’s(Employment and Social Development Canada)Job Bank. Job Bank helps Express Entry candidates get connected with eligible employers in Canada.
Candidates can promote themselves with potential employers using recruiters, job boards, etc. Employers usually require an LMIA from ESDC for any job offer to be valid in Express Entry and get points.
- Highest ranking candidates get an invitation to apply for permanent residence — Candidates get ranked against others in the Express Entry pool based on a point-based system known as CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System). Points are offered based on the information provided in their profile.
Those with the highest scores get an invitation to apply. Points are awarded for following
- Skills and experience and/or
- A job offers and/or
- A nomination from any territory/province.
Additional points are awarded for —
- A valid job offers
- Qualifying education in Canada; or
- A nomination by a territory/province.
Such additional points make a candidate rank sufficiently high to get an invitation to apply at the next eligible round of invitations. CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) processes most of the applications within six months or less.
Any candidate can stay in the pool for a maximum period of up to one year. They need to submit a new profile if they don’t receive an invitation to apply for Canada permanent residency within one year of submission of their Express Entry profile. They may re-enter the pool if they fulfill the eligibility requirements.
